Leaving SynCore

Your files are yours. You can take all of them with you whenever you like, and you don’t need to ask us. Here are the two ways to do it, and how to check nothing was left behind.

1. Download everything

Open a cloud in your account and choose Download everything. Account owners can also download every cloud at once from Clouds → Download all your data.

  • You get your files in ZIP files, with the folders kept exactly as they are. Each ZIP file holds up to 10 GB, so a big cloud comes in several parts; unzip them all into the same place. A single file bigger than 10 GB gets a ZIP file of its own.
  • Every export includes manifest.csv: a list of every file with its path, size, SHA-256 checksum, when it last changed and when it was added.
  • If you want them, you can also include the comments on your files, a list of each file’s saved versions, and details of your share links (never their secret addresses or passwords).
  • We prepare the ZIP files in the background and email you when they’re ready. A few gigabytes usually take minutes; hundreds of gigabytes can take several hours, and longer if other exports are waiting. We don’t promise a time.
  • The download links work for 7 days, and only while you’re signed in. After that the ZIP files are deleted. Your cloud isn’t changed.
  • To keep things fair, an account can start 3 full exports in 24 hours, one at a time.
  • Not included: files in the trash, uploads that haven’t finished, and older versions of files. If you’re in a team with folder rules, you get the files you can open.
  • Files in a private vault are included still encrypted, with a file called vault.json. Open them on your computer with our free tool and your vault passphrase or recovery key: see how the private vault works.

2. Copy your files with rclone or a WebDAV app

rclone is a free, open-source tool that copies files between services. It’s best for confident users, and handy for very large clouds because you can stop and carry on later.

  1. In your account, go to Settings → Devices and create an app password for rclone. We show you rclone’s settings, ready to use.
  2. Install rclone from rclone.org and add those settings.
  3. Copy the whole cloud to a folder on your computer: rclone copy syncore-yourcloud: ./my-syncore-files --progress
  4. Or copy it straight to another service you’ve set up in rclone: rclone copy syncore-yourcloud: otherservice:SynCore --progress
  5. Check the copy afterwards: rclone check syncore-yourcloud: ./my-syncore-files

Any other app that supports WebDAV works too, for example Cyberduck on Windows and Mac. Downloading has no size limit this way; uploading from a device is limited to 100 MB per file, or 5 GB with rclone. See Apps and devices.

3. Check nothing is missing

Compare the files you have with manifest.csv. Each file’s SHA-256 checksum should match:

  • Windows (PowerShell): Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 "path\to\file"
  • Mac: shasum -a 256 "path/to/file"
  • Linux: sha256sum "path/to/file"

If something doesn’t match or is missing, start a new export or contact us and we’ll help.

When you close your account

Your plan runs to the end of the period you’ve paid for. When the agreement ends, your clouds become read-only for at least 30 days so you can still download everything; after that they may be deleted, and we tell you first. The details are in our Cloud Service Terms and Terms of Service.
