Changelog

What’s new in SynCore

Changes you can notice, newest first. What we plan next is on our roadmap.

Changes

  1. Guides in page order, simpler forms and smaller fixes

    • The 18 video guides are now numbered in the order they appear on the Guides page, and the guide on folder roles and guests shows the Team price per person.
    • On phones, the Guides page loads smaller preview images and only loads a video when you play it.
    • The order and contact forms ask whether you are a business or an individual, take your date of birth as day, month and year, and check your details before the security check.
    • Service pages are shorter: how we work is now explained once, on the Services page.
    • A missing page now shows a proper not found page with links back to the site.
    • The privacy page says plainly that we have not appointed a local data protection representative, and the subprocessors page lists only email locations we have checked.
  2. New screenshots, and our name in earlier legal versions

    • The screenshots on our home page are new, taken from a demo account in the current app.
    • Earlier versions of our legal documents now show our name as SynCore, with a note saying that only the way our name is written has changed.
  3. Nine more video guides, and clearer billing dates

    • The Guides page now has 18 videos in three sections: your files; plans, team and billing; and apps and your data.
    • The new guides show how to rewind a cloud to an earlier moment, download everything in a cloud, keep files in a private vault, set folder roles and invite guests, turn on two-step sign-in, set your billing details and find invoices, add your branding, connect the SynCore apps, and leave SynCore with all your files.
    • On the Billing page, a new subscription now shows when it started and when its first invoice is due, and a free subscription says there is nothing to pay, instead of a “paid up to” date from before it began.
  4. Choose Team yourself, and clearer pricing

    • You can now choose the Team plan straight from the Pricing page and pick how many people it covers. We confirm the seats with you before it switches on. “Talk to us” is still there if you’d rather ask first.
    • Our Pricing and Support pages now share one table of how fast we aim to reply by email, for each plan and topic.
    • On a phone, the plan comparison on the Pricing page is shown as one card per plan, so there’s no sideways scrolling.
    • The addresses /signup and /sign-up now take you to account registration, and the forgotten password link goes straight to the reset page.
    • Our app downloads are now named SynCore-…; links to the old file names still work.
    • The Subprocessors page now names the companies that host and relay our email.
  5. Two more video guides

    • The Guides page has two new videos: how to order a paid cloud and see it switch on once your payment arrives, and how to invite people to your team, how they accept, and what each role can do.
    • Like the other guides, they are recorded in the real app, have English captions, and play from our own servers without cookies.
  6. The Team plan can be set up on any cloud

    • When you talk to us about Team, we can now put a new or existing cloud on it directly. Team is billed per person, and the cloud gets 250 GB for each person.
    • Adding or removing people from billing is a simple request. A change part way through a billing period is charged or credited for the days left, as with other plan changes.
    • Compare plans in your account now points to Team for anyone who needs team folders and roles.
  7. Video guides for cloud storage, and our name written SynCore

    • A new Guides page has seven short videos, recorded in the real app, that show how to upload files, find and organise them, use versions, share links and upload links, restore from the trash, and change your plan. Each has English captions.
    • The guides are linked from the menu and from each cloud in your account. Like the overview video, they play from our own servers and set no cookies.
    • The overview video on our About page now has a white background.
    • We now write our name as SynCore everywhere, as in our official documents. Our legal documents were republished as version 2.2.2 with this wording change only.
  8. A short overview video

    • Our About page now has a one-minute animated overview of our IT services and secure cloud storage, with optional English captions.
    • The video is played from our own servers, so watching it sets no cookies and sends nothing to other companies.
  9. A simpler home page

    • The home page now starts with what you can do with SynCore cloud storage, shows real screens of the app, and has three steps to get started. IT services have their own section further down.
    • On phones, the menu is one button with the main pages and larger Create an account and See pricing buttons.
  10. SynCore Sync for Windows and Linux, and SynCore for Android (beta)

    • SynCore Sync keeps one folder on your Windows or Linux computer in step with your whole cloud, in the background, without the website open. It has an icon in the notification area or system tray, where you can pause and resume it, and it can start when you sign in.
    • SynCore for Android backs up photos, videos and folders you choose to your cloud, in the background, with options for Wi-Fi only and only while charging. It sends new and changed files and never deletes anything.
    • Both connect with a short code that you approve in Settings → Devices. If a file changed in two places, both copies are kept, and files deleted in a synced folder go to the cloud’s trash.
    • Download them from our Apps page, where each file is listed with its SHA-256 checksum. They’re in beta and aren’t code-signed yet, so Windows and Android warn you when you install them. The Android app isn’t in Google Play.
    • There’s no Mac version and no app for iPhone or iPad yet. The apps are open source under the MIT licence, and their source code is on the Apps page.
  11. Groundwork for a SynCore sync app

    • We’ve built the part of SynCore that the sync app we’re planning will use: it gets only what changed since it last checked, is told straight away when something changes, and sends big files directly to your cloud’s storage.
    • Apps will connect with a short code that you approve in Settings → Devices, where you choose the cloud they open and confirm with your password. You can remove a device there at any time.
    • No app uses this yet. Until there is one, the automatic sync guides in Settings → Devices are the way to keep folders in step.
  12. Bigger files from your devices

    • rclone can now upload files of up to 5 GB each to your cloud, sending them in pieces. Other apps that connect as a drive can still send up to 100 MB per file.
    • When rclone sends a file in pieces, its checksum is checked once the last piece arrives, so a file changed on the way isn’t saved.
    • Already using rclone with SynCore? The rclone guide in Settings → Devices shows the small change to make in its settings.
  13. Automatic sync guides, and uploads that carry on

    • New step-by-step guides in Settings → Devices set up automatic sync: rclone on Windows, Mac and Linux, running on its own every 10 minutes, and FolderSync and PhotoSync on phones.
    • With rclone, if a file changed on both sides, both copies are kept, and a run that would delete a lot of files at once stops and changes nothing.
    • Big uploads in Chrome and Edge on a computer now carry on by themselves when you reopen SynCore, without choosing the file again. Elsewhere, you still choose the same file to carry on.
    • While files are being sent, a line at the top of the page says how many are left and roughly how long it will take, and you can ask to be told when they’ve finished.
  14. Private vault (Beta)

    • On paid plans, each cloud can now have a private vault: a folder where files and their names are encrypted in your browser with a passphrase only you know, before they’re uploaded. We can’t open them.
    • There’s no way to reset a vault passphrase. You can make a recovery key when you set it up, or later, and download it as a text file. If you lose both, nobody, including us, can open the files.
    • Vault files use your cloud’s space, go to the vault trash for 30 days when deleted, and keep older versions like other files. Search, previews, share links and connecting the vault as a drive aren’t available inside it.
    • It’s labelled Beta because an independent security review hasn’t been done yet. We publish exactly how it works, and a free tool that opens your vault files from a “Download everything” export without our website.
  15. Download everything, and a guide to leaving

    • Choose “Download everything” on a cloud to get all of it in ZIP files, with your folders kept. Big clouds come in several ZIP files of up to 10 GB each. Account owners can download every cloud at once from Clouds → Download all your data.
    • Every export includes a list of every file with its size, dates and SHA-256 checksum, so you can check nothing is missing. You can also include the comments on your files, a list of each file’s saved versions, and details of your share links.
    • We prepare it in the background and send you an email and a notice when it’s ready. The download links work for 7 days, and only while you’re signed in. In a team, you get the files you can open.
    • A new Leaving SynCore guide explains how to take everything with you, by ZIP or with rclone and other WebDAV apps.
  16. A page about apps and devices

    • A new Apps and devices page explains how to install SynCore from your browser on Android, iPhone, iPad and computers, and how to open a cloud as a drive on Windows, Mac and Linux or in phone apps that support WebDAV.
    • It says plainly what to expect: an internet connection is still needed, there’s no app in the app stores yet, connected devices take files up to 100 MB each, and our own desktop and mobile apps are planned.
  17. Open your cloud from your computer and phone

    • Connect a cloud to File Explorer on Windows, Finder on a Mac, Linux file managers, and phone apps that support WebDAV. Find it in Settings → Devices, with step-by-step guides.
    • Each device gets its own app password for one cloud, shown once. It can be read-only, it works with two-step sign-in, and you can remove it at any time. Changing your password disconnects every device.
    • Changes from a device follow the same rules as the website: roles, space, earlier versions, the trash and the activity log.
    • Up to 100 MB per file from a connected device. Bigger files can still be uploaded on the website. Works with trusted open-source and third-party apps, such as rclone, Cyberduck and Cryptomator. Our own desktop app is planned.
  18. Install SynCore on your phone or computer

    • Install SynCore from your browser and open it from your home screen, dock or desktop like an app. On Android and on computers with Chrome or Edge, choose “Install”. On iPhone and iPad, tap Share in Safari, then “Add to Home Screen”.
    • On phones and tablets, take a photo or video straight into a cloud, and on Android share photos and files from other apps to SynCore.
    • The app still needs an internet connection. Without one it shows a simple “You’re offline” page. Your files, and the pages you open while signed in, are never stored on the device by the app.
    • While files are being sent, the screen stays on where the browser allows it, so a phone doesn’t go to sleep halfway through.
  19. Your branding on share and upload pages (Pro and Team)

    • On the Pro and Team plans, the pages your clients see when you share files or ask them for uploads can show your business name, logo, colour and a short welcome message. Guest invitations show them too.
    • The web address stays syncoretech.net and every branded page and email ends with “Delivered securely by SynCore”, so people always know who delivered the files.
    • To keep people safe from fake pages, names can’t include SynCore or the names of well-known services, welcome messages can’t contain web or email addresses, and logos are redrawn as plain images. Anyone can report a page that pretends to be someone else.
  20. Team folders, roles and guests (Team plan)

    • On the Team plan, choose who can manage, edit, view or only upload, for the whole cloud or for each folder at its top level. You can also keep a folder private to the people you pick.
    • People who can only upload see the folder and their own uploads, and can’t open anyone else’s files.
    • Invite a guest by email to one folder until a date you choose, as an editor, viewer or upload only. Guests are free, see only that folder and can be removed at any time. Each team can have two guests for each person in it.
    • Set link rules for a cloud: every link needs a password, and links can last no longer than a length you choose.
    • Only the owner, or someone who manages the whole cloud, can change access, rewind a cloud or empty its trash. Changes to access are recorded in the activity log.
  21. Find, preview and discuss files

    • Search by name across a cloud or inside one folder, and narrow it down by type, when a file last changed and its size. Each result shows which folder it’s in.
    • PDFs show on the file page, and code and settings files preview as text, alongside the existing image, text, audio and video previews.
    • Leave comments on a file for others in your organisation. Whoever wrote a comment, or the organisation’s owner, can remove it.
  22. Longer file history

    • Earlier versions of each file are kept for 7 days on Free, 60 days on Personal and Plus, 180 days on Pro and 365 days on Team.
    • Each file shows how long its older versions are kept and how much space they use. After that they’re removed and the space comes back.
    • Rewind reaches back as far as your plan’s file history.
  23. Bigger uploads that can carry on

    • Files of up to 50 GB on Personal and Plus plans, and up to 250 GB on Pro and Team.
    • Up to 1,000 files in one upload.
    • If a big upload stops (for example, the page closes), choose the same file again and it carries on from where it stopped.
  24. Sharing, client uploads and rewind

    • Share folders as well as files, with an optional password, a download limit and an expiry date, and see an access log for each link.
    • Send a client an upload link: they can only add files to their own folder.
    • Put a whole cloud back to how it was at an earlier moment, and undo it if you change your mind.
    • Deleting files for good needs a code from your authenticator app and happens 7 days later, so it can be cancelled.
  25. Trust centre and service status

    • New trust centre that links our security, data and policy pages in one place.
    • New pages: what we do with your data, how to report a security problem, open-source credits, this changelog and our public roadmap.
    • A service status page with availability history measured by our own checks.
    • A security.txt file so security researchers know how to reach us.
  26. Clearer wording

    • Our website, help answers and three legal documents now say plainly that we serve clients outside the country where we are incorporated.
    • Support hours are shown in your own time zone as well as ours.
    • One tax line everywhere: prices are in US dollars and exclude any taxes that may apply.
  27. Instant switch-on and a choice of where your files live

    • A free cloud is ready as soon as you confirm your email address. A paid cloud switches on by itself once your payment arrives.
    • When you order a cloud, you can choose to keep your files in the European Union or in the United States.
  28. Published prices

    • Our pricing page shows every plan with its price in US dollars, monthly or yearly.
    • Price promise: your price won’t go up for 24 months on the same plan.
  29. Accessibility tools and the SynCore assistant

    • An accessibility toolbar on every page: larger text, a more readable font, stronger contrast, and more.
    • The SynCore assistant answers common questions on the website and in your account, at any hour, and hands over to our team when it can’t help.
  30. New website

    • A new website with our plans, security information, support hours and all our legal documents, each with its version and date.
    • Before you pay, we show who you’re paying, the total, how renewal works and how to cancel.
