Apps and devices

Use SynCore on all your devices.

Keep a folder on your computer in step with your cloud, back up your Android phone automatically, install SynCore from your web browser, or open a cloud like a drive from the file manager you already use. There’s nothing to buy, and it works on every plan. You still need an internet connection. Our apps are downloaded from this page, not from app stores.

Download our apps (beta, version 0.1.0-beta.1)

Connect each app with a short code that you approve in Settings → Devices, choosing the cloud it opens. Your account password is never typed into an app, and you can remove a device there at any time.

SynCore Sync for Windows

Keeps one folder on your computer in step with your whole cloud, in the background, without the website open. It sits in the notification area, where you can pause and resume it, and it can start when you sign in.

SynCore Sync for Linux

The same app for Linux, with an icon in the system tray. On GNOME, the icon needs the AppIndicator extension. It also runs without a desktop: syncore-sync login, then syncore-sync run.

SynCore for Android

Backs up photos, videos and folders you choose to your cloud, in the background, without keeping the app open. You can choose Wi-Fi only and only while charging. It sends new and changed files and never deletes anything.

  • How SynCore Sync works: changes you make are sent a few seconds after you save, and changes in the cloud usually arrive within a minute. Big files go straight to your cloud’s storage, up to your plan’s limit per file.
  • Nothing is overwritten without a copy. If a file changed on two devices, both versions are kept: one gets “conflicted copy”, the device and the date in its name. If a file was deleted on one device and changed on another, the changed file is kept.
  • Deleting a file in the folder moves it to the cloud’s trash, where you can restore it. If a round would delete many files at once, the app stops and asks before deleting anything.
  • In this beta, the whole cloud is synced into one folder, and every file is downloaded to your computer. It works best for folders of up to a few tens of thousands of files. You need access to the whole cloud, as its owner or with full access.
  • The apps aren’t code-signed yet, so your system warns you when you install them. On Windows, SmartScreen may say “Windows protected your PC”: choose “More info”, then “Run anyway”. On Android, allow your browser to install apps when it asks, then install. Google Play Protect may offer to scan the app first, because it isn’t from Google Play. Only do this for files downloaded from this page whose checksum matches the list below.
  • Mac: there’s no Mac version yet. On a Mac, use the browser app, or rclone with our automatic sync guide.
  • iPhone and iPad: there’s no app for iPhone or iPad. Install SynCore from Safari as described below, or use PhotoSync.
  • The apps are open source under the MIT licence. Their source code is in the list below.

Check your download (SHA-256)

On Windows, run certutil -hashfile FILE SHA256 in Command Prompt. On Linux, run sha256sum FILE. The result must match the line for your file.

Install it from your browser

Sign in at app.syncoretech.net first. Once installed, SynCore opens in its own window with its own icon, like an app.

Android (Chrome)

Open the menu (⋮) and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. You can then share files from other apps straight to SynCore.

iPhone and iPad (Safari)

Tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen, then Add. SynCore appears on your home screen.

Computers (Chrome or Edge)

Select the install icon at the right of the address bar. If you don’t see it, open the browser menu: in Chrome choose Cast, save and share → Install page as app; in Edge choose Apps → Install this site as an app. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook.
  • The installed app is the same SynCore you use in the browser, with the same sign-in and the same files. It updates itself.
  • It needs an internet connection to show and open your files. Without one, it shows a page saying you’re offline.
  • In the installed app, big uploads carry on from where they stopped when you reopen SynCore. In Chrome and Edge on a computer they carry on by themselves; elsewhere you choose the same file again. On phones, keep SynCore open until a big upload finishes: your phone’s system pauses web apps in the background.
  • While files are being sent, a line at the top says how many are left and roughly how long it will take. You can ask to be told when they’ve finished.

Open a cloud as a drive

SynCore speaks WebDAV, a standard that many file managers and apps understand. In your account, go to Settings → Devices.

Windows, Mac and Linux

Map a network drive in File Explorer, use Connect to Server in Finder, or open it in Files (GNOME) or Dolphin (KDE). For backups and big copies, the free tool rclone works well, and we give you its settings ready to use.

Phones and tablets

Use an app that supports WebDAV, for example FolderSync or Solid Explorer on Android, or FE File Explorer, Documents by Readdle or PhotoSync on iPhone and iPad. The built-in iPhone Files app doesn’t connect to WebDAV.
  • A separate app password for each device. Your account password is never typed into an app. If you lose a device, remove it in your account and it stops working straight away. If you use two-step sign-in, you confirm each new device with your code.
  • Up to 5 GB per file from apps that send big files in pieces, such as rclone. Other apps, including File Explorer and Finder, can send up to 100 MB per file. Bigger files go through the website or the installed app, which take files up to your plan’s limit.
  • Files are copied when you or your app copy them. For automatic sync, see below.
  • Deleting a file from a device moves it to the cloud’s trash, and replacing a file keeps the earlier version, just like on the website.
  • Windows File Explorer only downloads files up to 50 MB unless its settings are changed. For bigger files, use the website, rclone or Cyberduck.

Step-by-step guides for each system are in your account, next to the button that creates the app password.

Automatic sync today

Keep a folder on your computer or phone in step with your cloud, without copying files by hand.

On Windows and Linux, SynCore Sync (above) does this for you. You can also use the free tool rclone on Windows, Mac and Linux, or FolderSync and PhotoSync on phones, with SynCore. Our step-by-step guides in Settings → Devices set them to run on their own, for example every 10 minutes on a computer.

  • Computers: rclone copies changes both ways each time it runs. If a file changed on both sides, both copies are kept. If a run would delete a lot of files at once, it stops and changes nothing.
  • Android: FolderSync can sync a folder both ways on a schedule, and send changes on the phone straight away.
  • Photos: PhotoSync can back up new photos and videos by itself. On iPhone and iPad, Apple only lets it run in the background at certain moments, such as when you arrive home or while the phone is charging.

Deleted files go to the cloud’s trash and replaced files keep their earlier versions, so a mistake on one device can be undone on the website.

What’s next

Our apps are in beta: SynCore Sync for Windows and Linux, and SynCore for Android. A Mac version and an app for iPhone and iPad aren’t available. We’ll say so on our changelog when that changes, and our roadmap shows what we’re working on.

Moving away one day? Our Leaving SynCore guide shows how to take everything with you.
